Something Sentimental for *Me*

Some little Brownies (the Canadian version of Girl Scouts) came to the door this week selling their spring cookies. The box tells me that the Girl Guides are 100 years old!My own Brownie badges have been sitting in an envelope for, er, 30 years. I wanted to do something with my badges, but admittedly, yellow and brown are hard colors to work with. 30 years after the fact, I sewed this linen pillow to display them. I loosened the tension on my stitches so they'd show between the patches for an old fashioned look.
My children like me to tell stories about what each badge represents, and I like to cuddle and tell them.
What did you do with your old badges?

How nice. What a great way to remember being in the troop.

I LOVE THIS! I myself was only ever a pathfinder for one year (The step after Guides) but I cannot WAIT for Wednesday to turn five and be a Spark~! Your pillow is really cute and totally memorable. :)

This is wonderful! I love the effect that you produced with the stitches - looks like it's been around since your Brownie days!

I have no idea whatever hapened to my badges, but I still have a Christmas ornament (pinecone owl) that I made in Brownies nearly 30 years ago. It is very homely but I adore it - it is always displayed front and centre on my Christmas tree!

Here is Oz we have both Brownies (for young girls) and then Guides (for teenager-ish girls). I sewed my badges on a camp blanket.

Aww, what an awesome idea. I love it when sentimental (but difficult to display) items are repurposed like this in a way that shows how important they are. :) I hope the Brownies show up at my door soon!!

What a brilliant idea! I see you earned your golden ladder. Did you fly up to Guides? I walked up - no golden ladder for me - oops! I was a Sprite.

I have no idea where my badges and uniform went :(. I'll have to see if I can find them. I do have my grandmother's uniform and badges.

Thanks for the inspiration!

That's so sweet! My oldest is in cub scouts and we plan on making a shadow box and displaying all of his pins and badges and stuff in it. By the way I received the package with the shirt in it today, it's adorable. I know your note said you think you botched the ruffles but I don't think they look botched at all. Ally loves it and can't wait to wear it. :) YAY and thank you.

Oh i didn't do brownies, but i'm staying at my parents house & today took them around the hood, telling them stories of me growing up, some naughty, some with famous people, oh la la!! They love sleeping in bedrooms which used to be mine, plus i met my husband as a teenager so they were asking if he used to climb through my windows??!! So cute, he he, i have French Doors to the backgarden, no windows for soldier boy. Love Posie
