Show Me Your Underpants

(hee hee, I've always wanted to say that) Who out there knows of, or has on their blog a tutorial to make kids underpants? I figure that by summer Little V will be a) wearing underpants instead of diapers, and b) flashing them all over the playground. It's my plan to make undies that look not-so-much-like-undies (if possible), and to re-use my hemp diaper liners for those first few months of potty training (if possible). I bought some thick organic jersey a while ago that might make good skivvies. Admittedly, I used to snicker at people who made their own when underwear is so cheap and plentiful, but now I must eat crow. I have a use for homemade underpants, so bring 'em on!

Here is a link for boxer style underpants. I haven't had a chance to make them yet, but they look easy enough.

You are the second person ever I have heard use the term eat crow. I had never heard it until just a little while ago.
anyhoo, I am no help I have no tute but I just wanted to mention what I do for Wednesday in the panty area. She wears little boys fruit of the looms. They don't wedgie, ever or constrict her thighs. Funnily enough, little girls panties are not made to fit little girls. I have thought about maybe dying them pink or something but for now they are just too cute. The little tighty whities on a little girl.
Also, the hemp soaker is a good idea but, in my experience training pants didn't help. When Wednesday had an accident, it was a full on pee not leakage. So she went straight from a bare bottom for three weeks to undies.
I am looking forward to seeing what you come up with though!

I can't remember where I saw it, but one blogger cut 9-month-old pants and hemmed them up to make underwear, because while they were now much too short as pants, without the diaper, the waist fit fine. I thought that was pretty brilliant, and plan to try it. I love your idea of lining with cloth diapers; will add that to my plan.

I made these, and people seem to like them (and my toddler LOVES them) http://burkeshires.blogspot.com/2010/01/toddlerboys-boxer-briefs.html
good luck!

Hm. I've never made them in child sizes, but I do make my own, and the easiest thing to do is just to cut up a pair of some that you already know fit her well. Trace/cut etc. And if you find a place that sells cute lingerie elastic, holla! All of the local shops here just have plain white and I don't love it.

I made my princess some safari underpants from an old T-shirt using the method The cat wisperer suggested.
